Amharic Language
The Amharic language is an ancient Semitic language, closely related to Ge'ez and Hebrew. It is the official language of Ethiopia. There are also significant numbers of Amharic speakers in Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea, Israel and Somalia. The Amharic language has been used as a sacred language for many centuries. The present form of the written language dates to around the 9th century AD. Amharic speakers live mainly in Ethiopia, with significant minorities in Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea and Somalia.
