Hindi Language
The Hindi language (Devanagari: हिन्दी, IAST: Hindī) is an Indo-Aryan language and the native language of approximately 280 million people in India and Nepal. It is a member of the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European languages. It is written using the Devanagari script. The name "Hindi" derives from Hindustani (literally meaning "of Hindustan"), but this term refers to the broader "Hindi belt" which includes some dialects of what are now considered separate languages, such as Awadhi and Bhojpuri (sometimes also regarded as dialects of Hindi itself). The term Hindustani is still used for the colloquial language and the lingua franca of North India and Pakistan, for example for the language of Bollywood films, as well as for several quite different varieties of Hindi spoken outside India.
