Tigrinya Language
The Tigrinya language is a member of the Semitic family of languages, a family that includes Arabic and Hebrew. It is spoken in Eritrea and parts of Ethiopia, including the semi-autonomous region of Tigray. In these areas, Tigrinya is used as a first language by tens of millions of people. Tigrinya has similarities to the other languages in the Semitic family. It has a basic word order that comes from the Proto-Semitic language, which was used by the ancestors of modern Semites before their dispersal around the world. The vowel system resembles that of Arabic and Amharic, another Ethiopian language.
